Mitsui O.S.K. Lines is going to invest almost $2bn in decarbonization initiative over the next three years.
As part of the environmental strategy, the shipping company intends to put relevant activities forward. Particularly, they want to promote development of greenhouse gas program with no emissions over the period of 30 years, as well as to establish alternative sources of power supply and to introduce tariffs for carbon emissions.
The initiative is aimed at development of new approaches for conducting more eco-friendly business and using ships supplied by low carbon sources and wind-powered offshore facilities.
MOL also tends to present services that will use visual sources to show how carbon emissions affect the environment and thus to reduce its effect.
So far, the company has already presented some programmes about transition to alternative power supply sources (like LNG) and wind-powered systems.
Since 2018 the company is actively participating in a joint project with the University of Tokyo for the creation of the Wind Challenger, whose release is expected the following year.
MOL has also taken a role of an investor for a ship management company in Norway, which operates carriers with liquefied CO2 power supply.
